My 11 year old cat started behaving strangely last 2-3 days- going in and out of the litter many times but not doing anything in it. Then he became slow and lethargic, started drinking a lot of water and stopped eating. Today he is moving slowly and is looking for cool places in the house but has not eaten. What is the problem?
RESPONSE:
There are two possibilities that came to mind when I read your question. The first is hyperthyroidism because I have a cat a couple of years older than yours who has this condition. We resolved it with our vet's help and he now is given a pill twice a day to control his condition.
The second is feline kidney disease which is a potentially more dangerous situation. The links to the details on these two mentioned above will follow.
I strongly suggest you get your cat to the vet as soon as you can. After reading both these links, you will see how important it is to get your cat help quickly.
