can i put saline solution in my cat's eye?
RESPONSE:
A mild saline solution (1/4 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of lukewarm water) is beneficial to rinse away foreign items like grass from cat’s eyes. If the eyes have an eye discharge, you can use a soft towel and warm water to wipe it away. If the eyes are badly irritated you can use a warm compress. For minor eye infections, homeopathic treatments would include commonly used herbs like aconite, euphrasia or sanicula. There are commercially available herbal eye washes and cleansing solutions but I suggest seeking the advice of your veterinarian prior to using antibiotic medications used to treat viral infections.
Minor eye infections have symptoms of watery eyes, redness, discharge and even conjunctivitis. Home remedies like those listed above should be okay but if the condition lasts more than a few days without showing signs of improvement, you should seek advice from your vet.
Good luck with making your kitty more comfortable.
