Older cat

What does blood in olde cat's stool mean?

RESPONSE:

Blood in the stool means somewhere in the digestive tract there is bleeding. It can be an anal fissure brought about by passing a hard stool, diverticular disease (small pouches on the colon wall) that can bleed or get infected, or a number of other benign growths like polyps that can bleed. These can happen at any age in a cat but the older cats are more vulnerable.

I suggest you watch and see if it stops or continues. Hopefully it is something simple already mentioned but if it gets worse and/or continues for more than a few days, you will have to take your cat to the vet to be checked for more serious possibilities.
