So my cat-son, Atlas, started acting strange a day or two ago. I think he has stomatitis because he's drooling (and it smells) so much but his gums arent inflamed and his teeth seem to be in good condition. He will eat wet food but wont drink water and he has black clumpy stuff around the corners of his mouth. We're a really close pair so usually he'll let me wipe his face and stuff but I see its starting to cause him a lot of discomfort. Plus he's been really spacey.
I dont have money to go to the vet, but I am an aspiring herbalist so I started to mix calendula and parsley in his food (which he seems to appreciate though it only stops his symptoms for about 4-5 hours at a time).
What's wrong with my boy? What do I do?
RESPONSE:
I apologize for the delay in answering you but I've been dealing with a serious cat illness with one of my cats.
Since you can't afford a vet then I suggest you try to find a veterinary school that accepts feline patients. They usually do examinations at no charge for the school curriculum. This sounds serious. I took my cat into the vet for his annual exam and shots and had the shocking news that he has bone cancer in his jaw...the reason for his drooling.
I'm hoping that yours can be remedied easier. But, this isn't something that can be guessed at, your cat has to be seen by a professional with the equipment to do the blood tests etc. to zero in on the problem.
I wish I could assist you more but your situation sounds more involved. I wish you luck with finding a veterinarian school or college that can help.
