male cat weird traites

I have a male kitten that was born at our home. His mother is still here, but all its siblings have good homes. He has everything a cat could want. But,,,he has a weird habit. He sucks his own genital area. He will roll up in a ball and goes crazy. He was born the first of July so he is just a little over 4 months old.
Is this normal.?

RESPONSE:

No, this isn't normal and I don't know how the kitty got the habit. Perhaps when he is a bit older and neutered it will stop. I'm not sure. Have you mentioned it to your vet?

Its possible that he had competition from his siblings to suckle his mother prior to being weaned and found this odd substitution, sort of like a child sucking their thumb.

I wish I had an answer for you. Perhaps one of readers will add a suggestion.
