Hi there guys, I've recently posted about my cats sneezing.
She seems over that. Now however she now has itchy ears
And won't stop scratching. She's got no fleas or mites and I just don't
Know what to do now:/ please help!!!
RESPONSE:
Sorry I took a few days to answer you but I was having serious computer problems.
If it's not fleas or mites then there are a number of things that it could be. Allergies in Cats are notorious for causing itching and the cause could be food or an airborne culprit (click on the link for details) or it could be a wax buildup in the ear canal, a tumor in the ear canal, bacteria or yeast infection, or even a foreign object like a simple blade of grass lodged inside the ear.
The scratching that your cat is displaying is demonstrating that he has discomfort. If it's an ear infection it can be treated with antifungals like Ketoconazole Tablets, antibiotics like Clavamox or anti-parasitic ointments like Panalog or ear-drops like Calm Ear that help to cleanse the ear. the main thing is to get it resolved before an outer ear infection spreads to the middle ear area.
I have an article on this site that deals with various cat ear infections. Cat Ears Please follow the link and you will see some products that help with keeping a cat's ears clean and remove wax buildup. Your local pet store or pharmacy may have some of these products on hand.
If the infection continues and your cat doesn't respond to getting her ears cleaned up, then you may have to take her to the vet for blood tests to help determine what is going on. Hopefully, it's a minor issue but please err on the side of caution with a vet visit if the problem isn't resolved soon.
Good luck to you and your furry friend.
