Hello,
My 13 yo female cat is of normal weight and in good health. However, she engages in fur mowing on her back legs, belly and tail. Her brother passed away a month ago, but they weren't on great terms. We have two other neutered male cats.
I have read that it could be allergies, stress, arthritis, or ???? I have tried giving her glucosamine and chondroitin sprinkled in her food to no effect. She does tend towards having a nervous disposition. We have a feliway diffuser running at all times in her favorite room.
She has a yearly check up coming soon and I wanted to feel informed as I asked the vet these same questions I am asking you.
Any thoughts on how to puzzle this out? Should we try an antidepressant? How can I be sure she isn't in pain?
Thank you!
RESPONSE:
The only thing that comes to mind right away is feline alopecia which is cat hair loss. My cat Max had a problem with over grooming his hair off. Here is the link to the page:
