our 14 year old cat just began keeping her eyes closed today, she is sleeping more than usual, and her eyes are draining a clear discharge. She is lethargic and wanting to stay in my son's closet as to isolate herself.
RESPONSE:
Cats frequently isolate themselves when they are ailing. Its an instinct to keep predators (in the wild) from knowing that they are vulnerable.
I suggest you take your cat to the vet to be checked out because 14 isn't so old nowadays for many cat breeds. There are numerous causes of eyes weeping and having discharges that a vet would recognize pretty quick.
A few pages that cover some of the issues that could be relevant follow:
Allergies in Cats
Cat Illness Symptoms
Cat Eye Problems
Scan the articles and see if there is a connection to the condition of your cat so you can mention it to the vet during your visit.
I hope you are able to help your cat and wish you both success.
