Cat with hind leg paralysis

Hello, recently my cat Milo apparently fell(he was alone) and hurt his spinal cord. Now, he has paralysis in his hind legs and tail, although he has some control over his left leg.

He has been at the vet's for about a week now recovering, and we are planning to take him home soon to care for him. My question is that are there specific things we have to get ready in order to welcome him home? Like a playpen, for example, has been recommended by the doctor. Milo has regained partial control of his bladder, and his bowel movements are fine. Since he will no longer be able to use a litter box, we were wondering if you knew of something else that could take its place, besides a diaper (we are looking into getting that too).

Thank you,

Christy Hamilton

RESPONSE:

Sorry to hear that Milo has this injury. I agree that the playpen is a good idea.

However, I'm not really aware of an alternative to diapers although there may be something out there. I have a page on cat diapers that you may want to read. The link follows:

Cat Diapers

I wish you and Milo the best of luck in adjusting to the new situation.
