My 15 year old cat has been sneezing and has a discharge from her eyes and nose. She got her rabies vaccination a few days before it started. She is eating and drinking. She is sneezing very often sometimes 10 times in a row. She does not have a feaver. She received the cat version of rabies shot. Could there be a relation between the two?
RESPONSE:
Common rabies vaccine reactions are usually minor. There are a number of side effects such as vomiting, appetite loss, diarrhea, low grade fever, lethargy, and also sneezing...which you mention.
In most cases these symptoms will disappear in a few days. They are brought about by your cat's immune system responding to the vaccination and starting to build an immunity.
Since there is no fever or other symptoms you are probably okay to wait and watch. However, if these symptoms continue for more than a week, I would certainly get the cat to the vet to be checked out. Hopefully all is well.
