We are planning to bring into the home another cat from an animal shelter when it's ready to come home soon. I am concerned if the new cat will pick up anything remaining from the environment.
Our old cat was ill for about 5 years on steroids and liver disease tablets, often trips to the vets to check her. She was about 15 years when she finally passed.
The cat we have set our hearts on having isn't young but we thought it would be good to give her some quality of life in her final years. She's 12 years old. Her previous owner had to go into an old peoples home.
Is there anything in our home that could be contagious to this cat from our previous cat? We don't want to bring her into an environment that isn't safe.
RESPONSE:
Cat liver disease is not contagious in the way you are thinking it is. I have put the link to the page that describes this liver disease in more detail.

I hope that you will enjoy the new member of your family and its wonderful to take in an older cat.
