i RESCUED A BLIND CAT WHEN HE WAS ABOUT THREE MONTHS OLD HIS EYES WERE FULL OF BLOOD AND HE WAS IN A VERY BAD SHAPE. I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE HIM A CHANCE OF LIFE AND TOOK HIM TO THE VET ..AFTER A GREAT DEAL OF TREATMENT HE IS ALIVE BUT BLIND. THE OTHER CATS ATTACK HIM BUT HE HOLDS HIS OWN. SOMETIMES HE RUNS AROUND THE COFFEE TABLE (IT IS ROUND) CONTINUOUSLY ...HE HAS NOT BEEN NEUTERED YET AS THE VET WANTED TO WAIT FOR A YEAR TO SEE HOW HE RESPONDED TO THE TREATMENT. HE NOW SEEMS OK APART FORM THE FACT THAT HE WALKS ROUND AND ROUND THE COFFEE TABLE AND THEN RUNS FASTER AND FASTER. HE IS EATING OK AND GENRALLY SEEMS HEALTHY.
RESPONSE:
I was hoping that maybe your kitty felt comfortable going around the circular table in circles because it was a known shape. However, although a blind cat may do this for a brief time, the fact that it continues may point to other causes.
Circling in the same direction can be an indication of a brain lesion. They can get viruses and infections that cause this to happen. I would suggest you get the cat to the vet for a neurological exam to determine the cause.
There are treatments for some of the possible conditions and medications to slow any progression.
I wish you and your kitty good luck in getting this resolved.
